Forging

Hot work tools operate at elevated temperatures and form products in aluminium, magnesium, steel and other metals.

In general, the steel used for hot forging should provide excellent hot strength, resistance to dynamic forces, as well as hot wear. The working conditions require high demands on ductility and toughness. Hot forging comprices of many sub-segments like upset forging, progressive forging and roll forging.

ASSAB offers a hot work tool steel program with grades having different combinations of:

Good tempering resistance
High hot yield strength
High ductility and toughness
Good thermal conductivity

For a forging die it is essential that the tool steel has a good hot wear resistance and a good toughness.
