Uddeholm-ASSAB Turkey High Pressure Die Casting Seminar

print The Uddeholm High Pressure Die Casting Seminar took place at 26th-27th of May 2009 in Dedeman Hotel Şile, a wonderful holiday resort near Istanbul. Local and foreign contributors were able to share know-how and experiences with the participants in a sincere way during the two days of the seminar.

The event started Tuesday afternoon, when die manufacturer and caster participants arrived. ASSAB Turkey’s Director of Sales & Marketing Department, Dr. Aziz Hatman, gave a welcoming speech and introduced the speakers. He was followed by Mrs. Rose-Marie Estebe from Dassault Systemes-CATIA, who spoke about efficient die design and CAD-CAM software. The seminar was continued with the presentation of Sandvik Coromat’s Mr. Ozgur Topcu’s “Productive machining of dies” and Dr. Douwe Kok’s presentation on “Material flow and lubricants”. Dr. Kok’s discourse about new developments in the field of die-specific lubrication equipment design attracted a lot of interest from the attendants. The evening was ended with cocktails and buffet meal dinner.

The second day started early in the morning with the issue “Failure mechanisms on HPDC dies” by Hot Work Application Manager Mr. Olle Tönnberg of Uddeholm Tooling AB. With translation and additions by Dr. Aziz Hatman, the discourse became more substantial and some discussions occurred. During the discourse, valuable information was shared on how to prolong tool life, as well as the efficient use of dies. Right after this, Mr. Marcello Fabbroni of world-renowned casting machines manufacturer Bühler Druckguss made his presentation on “Producing economically”, where he explained newly developed technologies to increase the casting quality and efficiency.

After lunch, Mr. Jean-Philippe Woehrel from PSA Peugeot-Citroen was in line with his speech on manufacturing die casting dies. Woehrel is working as Project Manager in integrated production department, which operates with Peugeot-Citroen Automotive from component design to casting. He spoke about die manufacturing, underlining the importance of casting conditions and die maintenance. The presentation gained much reaction from the audience and with their question and comments, it became really vivid.

The last topic of the event was about tooling material and improving die life again, again by Olle Tönnberg from Uddeholm Tooling and Dr. Aziz Hatman. The issue was tool material selection. After this, the seminar was concluded with reciprocal questions and comments between contributors and seminar participants.

Overall, the Uddeholm HPDC Seminar was very interactive and worthy information was shared about the sector problems and actual condition, both technical and economical. All presentations were listened to very attentively by the attendants and the common opinion was that the event should be held again soon.
